Bio:
In my artistic journey, I identify as a seer, drawing inspiration from a diverse array of visions that appear in between reality and my subconscious. These visions, fluid and ever-changing, guide me to employ various tools and mediums to bring them into existence. The source of my visions lies in the intricate interplay between dreams and elements such as land, language, and the inherent chaos in our existence, often entwined with the ongoing socio-political turbulence.Having dedicated substantial time as a community artist, I engaged in collaborative endeavors, passionately contributing to art projects addressing pressing social causes. However, a profound realization compelled me to reassess my approach – recognizing that rest itself can be a revolutionary act. This shift in perspective led me to be more discerning in selecting projects, acknowledging the transformative power of replenishment.
My connection to the visionary aspect of my art remains steadfast through a deliberate engagement with dreams and a commitment to relearning the languages of my ancestors. Growing up in a detribalized community along the Rio Grande has profoundly shaped my identity as a Chicano lens-based artist. This unique background informs my work, enriching it with layers of cultural depth and historical resonance. In this current phase of my artistic exploration, I am enthused about the dynamic interplay between traditional printing methods and innovative new media arrangements. This fusion allows me to traverse the boundaries of artistic expression, pushing the boundaries of my creative practice.
As I embark on this journey, my art becomes a bridge between the past and the future, a vessel through which I explore the rich tapestry of my heritage and the evolving complexities of the contemporary world.
